The best accommodations for low budget
We usually slept in double rooms for 10-20 € per night.
Important to us were a familiar atmosphere, cleanliness, fan and if possible, a Sri Lankan breakfast.
Here you will find an overview of our favorite accommodations which I can highly recommend.
Colombo
Seconds Hostel
Seconds Hostel is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo and relax by the pool, or to meet people in a familiar atmosphere. There are single and double rooms as well as dorms. On request they prepare a daily changing breakfast for you (mostly sweet, from waffles to cakes to smoothie bowls). In addition, the owners are constantly working on new ideas for their accommodation, currently a small café is being built in the outdoor area of the hostel.
Hiriketiya
Peak House
The name says it all and everyone is bound to get sporty here 😀 Located on the highest point of Hiriketiya, you'll find the Peak House - a small homestay away from the village center with large, clean rooms and a beautiful garden where monkey families climb around daily. We enjoyed the stay and especially the daily changing, freshly prepared Sri Lankan breakfast to the fullest. Although a bit tiring in the heat, the 10-minute walk to the beach/surf spot is worth it, as you can enjoy the beautiful nature with sea view on the way.
Arugam Bay
Little Lagoon
The accommodation may seem a bit far away because it is located at the very beginning of Arugam Bay, but it is very quiet here, the best restaurants are around the corner and in two minutes you are at the beach! If you take one of the free bikes, you can also get to all the other places in Arugam Bay. There are clean double rooms with private bathroom and terrace, with a choice of air con or fan. Plus points are the gigantic outdoor area decorated with plants, the kitchen with water dispenser and the super dear owners and staff, who make the Little Lagoon a true oasis of well-being!
Ella
V@Ella Guesthouse
At the V@Ella Guesthouse we felt right at home and could have stayed forever! After an approx. 15 minute walk from Ella town through the jungle, you are rewarded in the accommodation by an amazing view directly on the Ella Rock, Little Adams Peak and the green jungle. The rooms are large, clean and of a European standard. The bed was the best on our entire trip through Sri Lanka and felt like our own! Breakfast is included in the price and is gigantic: there was freshly squeezed juice, pancakes, coconut roti, sambal, toast, fried egg, jam, fruit, coffee and tea - and all with a view of the mountains. If you feel like a snack in the afternoon, you can also enjoy tea and cookies.
Sigiriya
Roy's Villa Hostel
Even if Roy's is not the cheapest accommodation in Sigiriya, it is worthwhile for all those who are looking for contact with other travelers in addition to the beautiful nature. In Roy's Hostel you always meet nice people, Roy is very helpful, can arrange tours to the sights and has good insider tips. There are extremely clean dorms with huge single beds and luxurious double rooms with a private terrace. The highlight of the double rooms is definitely the beautiful outdoor shower! If you have to keep attention to your budget you can ride the bike to the 'Big Bites' about 10 minutes away. Besides the meals offered at Roy's, there you will find authentic meals for low budget, which will make up for the accommodation costs.
Hikkaduwa
Anthony Guesthouse
The word 'homestay' really fits here: the flair is very authentic and the lovely owners live with their 7 (!!) cats on the same property. We stayed here for 10 nights because the family became dear to our hearts! The rooms are huge, you have your own terrace, it is quiet and clean. You can order a freshly cooked Rice and Curry Dinner in the evening. If you travel to Hikkaduwa, you should definitely stop by here to experience true Sri Lankan hospitality.
Jaffna
Palmayura Hotel
Palmayura Hotel is the perfect accommodation to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The accommodation is quiet and located a little bit outside the city center. There is enough space for sleeping, all rooms are equipped with 2 (!) double beds. In addition, each room has its own bathroom, an electric kettle and there is a nice sitting area on the terrace with a view over the huge garden.
Where to find
Hi Corinna.
